We are Irish, and we often stop off at her shrine after the Romanian Divine Liturgy in Cork. Since she is a pre-schism Saint, as well as all other early Irish Saints, she is venerated as well as all the many other Saints of Early Irish Christianity. St Gobnait, St Bridget, St Brendan, and St Kieran and St Patrick pray for us!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503689522096376739.post-53348639319680939772010-05-04T03:07:16.093+01:002010-05-04T03:07:16.093+01:00I am hoping to revisit St Gobnait's shrine aga...I am hoping to revisit St Gobnait's shrine again this year once I return from the US. Since my mothers passing I have a special fondness for the area. With that been said I have some very fond memories of going there with my younger sister, Gobnait as a young girl. My mother was Gobnait Ni Sulliabhain and was born in Coolea.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503689522096376739.post-88584436599503693522010-03-10T02:39:22.750+00:002010-03-10T02:39:22.750+00:00Thank you for this. I remember a lady called Gobnait when I was young. We thought it was a strange name but she was a wonderful woman. I feel that a name makes a difference to a person.Random Thinkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09017338039927787699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503689522096376739.post-48990395591711626272010-02-18T19:21:04.056+00:002010-02-18T19:21:04.056+00:00Thanks to everyone for their nice comments. I've been working on something related to the Cork floods that I might post next month if I can find the time.

The prayer to St. Gobnait on her statue is the prayer that is said to begin the rounds of her shrine at Ballyvourney. Then you recite a pattern of Creeds, Our Fathers, Hail Marys and Glory Bes while you walk around the statue, at St. Gobnait's house near the entrance, St. Gobnait's "bed", St. Gobnait's church, and finally St. Gobnait's well away in the woods. The whole plan is written up on a sign at the place.

Cheers!Shandon Bellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08054708322584874701noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503689522096376739.post-32519861524066042582010-02-18T19:09:07.165+00:002010-02-18T19:09:07.165+00:00The richness of Irish spirituality and sanctity ne...The richness of Irish spirituality and sanctity needs to be rediscovered. The ruins of the church look interesting and knowing some of the folklore also helps at getting to know a place. Have you been to the twin towns of Ballina and Killaloe in Tipperary/Clare? They are well worth the visit of you haven't been there. The Standing Stonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09831180667904811620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503689522096376739.post-26598431991500200372010-02-16T02:05:40.598+00:002010-02-16T02:05:40.598+00:00Hey Shandon Belle! I guess we owe some of that to the hand of St. Gobnait. Is there a prayer to St. Gobnait? I didn't get down home until this morning so I wasn't at Ballyvourney for the pattern day but we went over this afternoon and there were plenty of people making the rounds. I read on 'Under the Oak' that Brigit was making a comeback as a name for newborns. Maybe Gobnait could do the same! See what I can do about O Suilleabhain Beara when I get five minutes.
